We are proud of anyone who learns code, but it is a special joy to see veterans move into the tech world.
We are proud to offer the most rigorous coding bootcamp in industry, but students who come from the military have the same drive and confidence as those who have completed a more difficult bootcamp.
We like to celebrate our veterans alumni by looking at how they have changed the world since serving their country. These are some stories that we hope will inspire you to enroll in Coding Bootcamp once you have completed your service.
The best part is that the GI Bill(r), covers veterans who decide to make Coding Dojo their next step on the path to a high-paying career.
Tom Hollingshead
Tom was an Aviation Technician in the Marine Corps and found himself in a Quality Assurance Representative contract position. Tom knew he needed to improve his technical skills to get to the top of his career. He used his GI Bill Benefits in order to enroll in Coding Dojo’s coding course in Seattle, Washington.
After initially being intimidated by coding bootcamps, Tom switched gears and began “attacking algorithmic” to get his skills back. Tom then returned to his passion, aviation, and landed a job at an established aerospace manufacturer.
Larry Overman
Some veterans don’t jump into coding immediately after their service ends. Larry Overman, a 14 year veteran of the U.S. Coast found himself unsure what his future would look like despite his service and a Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management.
Larry realized that any job he wanted to pursue would require technology and used the GI Bill to pay for Coding Dojo in Washington. Larry, like all students, found the pace and intensive nature the program difficult to adjust to but was able work with his fellow students to learn HTML and CSS, Python, C# and MEAN together.
Larry realized that he could work anywhere and for everyone and decided to trade his house for an RV. He knew he was well-equipped to take on any personal or professional adventure.
Justin Honey
Sometimes it takes time to find your calling. After four years of service in the U.S. Air Force Justin Honey found himself moving from one job to another and from one industry to the next. He was only after hearing from friends about the quality, satisfaction, and salaries of programming jobs that he decided to look into Coding Dojo.
Justin moved from Coast-to Coast with a coding bootcamp. He quickly became a pro at programming and found a job that emphasized C++ right after his graduations. Justin is now the main point of contact for all things related development and updating legacy software at Bestpass, a trucking company that focuses on toll management.
