It didn’t take too long for other competitors to respond to the cloud-based analytics service, Amazon QuickSight, which was announced last week by Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS). SAP today revealed a similar offering.
The SAP Cloud for Analytics solution is a planned Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering designed to be a one-stop shop for cloud analytics, based on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.
SAP stated in a statement that today that the solution is high-performing and real-time and will be integrated with existing SAP solutions. It also intends to connect cloud and on-premise data to provide planning, predictive, and business intelligence (BI), capabilities in one analytics experience.”
This news comes less than a week following the announcement of QuickSight by AWS at its re-Invent conference in Las Vegas. Gladys Rama, AWS Insider’s reporter from the conference, reported that QuickSight allows users to organize, visualize, interact and share data stored across multiple AWS sources. The service aims to reduce the cost and time required to create reports using traditional on-premises BI tools.
The SAP product can be embedded in SAP apps or third-party apps. It will unify enterprise planning, budgeting, and predictive capabilities into a single cloud service. This will give business users the ability work with all types of data, regardless of size, in one place. More information will be revealed at the SAP TechEd conference keynote, Oct. 20.
Rama stated that AWS offers pre-built data visualization templates, sharing and collaboration with other users, as well as native mobile apps for iOS or Android. QuickSight leverages a super-fast parallel in-memory computing engine (or SPICE) that partners can use to enhance their BI offerings.
AWS stated that Amazon QuickSight gives partners an interface that looks like SQL to query the SPICE data. This allows customers to continue using existing BI tools from AWS, BI Partners, while also benefiting from the faster performance of SPICE.
